Flat Vernacular Turns 3!

I attended Flat Vernacular‘s Third Birthday Party this past Thurs. The party was held at their Pattern Pop Up Store over at South Street Seaport, its only open until Labor Day so hurry up and run over before it closes! Payton and Brian have totally transformed an old Victoria’s Secret store into their own pattern playground. Besides their ever popular wallpaper they have upholstered pieces, scarves, new installations such as an entire ikat wall made out of pencils as well as eyelash wallpaper! Those two are quite the innovators!

Designer Secrets: Upholstered Walls

Designer Secrets

There is nothing that I love more than an upholstered wall with beautiful nailhead trim, it literally makes my heart sing. There is something about the orderliness of all. The trim lined up in a perfect row with the combination of the texture of the upholstery. It seems so luxe and a bit over the top. I love the attention to detail. Besides being droolworthy upholstered walls also have a practicality to them such as buffering sound and creating a cozy nest like environment.

I love it all! I’ll even take the dog!

I love how this banquette and upholstered wall is seamlessly tied together to make quite the statement!

Using the same idea as above these upholstered walls serve as a headboard and really bring the room to new heights

Cozy and comfy are the key words here in this bedroom

Sometimes being too matchy-matchy makes me cringe but this photo is making me think otherwise

Installations: A Massachusetts Farmhouse Where Color & Pattern Meet

Did you happen to catch this Sneek Peak over on Design*Sponge last week? You may have noticed a familiar pattern. Our wallpaper Marigny in Atmosphere graces this Massachusetts Farmhouse Kitchen and sets the tone for a very colorful kitchen! Our wallpaper served as the inspiration for the rest of the kitchen which features a baby blue dishwasher and fridge!

Sally was kind enough to send over a few extra photos of our paper that didn’t make the post and I am so excited to share them!

Designer Secrets: Wallpaper as Art

Designer Secrets

Perhaps this isn’t quite a secret but wallpaper does not have to be limited to walls!  Even if you do have an amazing art collection framing a piece of wallpaper can elevate a room and add a dose of color and pattern. Best of all you don’t have to commit to one pattern.

or color way, the sky is the limit!

I have pieces of my own wallpaper framed in my apartment in funky frames that I’ve found at thrift stores and stoop sales. Check out the rest of my Brooklyn apartment here.

Mix and match patterns, throw in some fun vintage frames and you’ve got yourself some easy art!

I love the idea of using the same pattern but in two different colorways as a pair!

Julia of Pawley’s Island Posh (who is also on my daily reads list and I’d secretly like to meet!) framed a sample of Sierra in Cadmium in her previous house for a pop of pattern!

Even if you do have wallpaper there are no rules when it comes to layering pattern!

Blog Love : Made & State

I came across Made & State after my realizing that they had a wallpaper pattern of mine on their site, see Knotted here. Their posts are cleverly curated and most importantly all feature American designers. I particularly love the Under the Influence series, check out this one with Christiana Coop and Aimee Lagos of Hygge & West. Made & State even dubs wallpaper as the new black.

Also how can you not love a blog that has a Manifesto like this one?about-page

Blog Love : Golubka

Roasted Yellow Plum and Rosemary Popsicles

Its been slightly cooler in NYC but we had a serious heat wave the past few weeks. During that time I came across a new to me blog called Golubka. I’m normally not a big food blog reader but this blog reeled me in with the absolutely amazing photograph and styling and the fact that their recipes seem to be super healthy AND look delish.  I literally wanted to make EVERY SINGLE recipe on this blog asap as soon as I came across it. This is the recipe that roped me in, Melon Basil Summer Rolls, yes please!

I’m going to leave you with these two beautiful images of two popsicle recipes to satiate your summer appetite but do yourself a favor and browse through the recipe index and put a few on your to do list!
